SEAFORD College Prep School’s Choir is aiming high – and not just in terms of notes.
Having won the Chichester Music Festival this year, they are now setting their sights on the BBC Choir of the Year competition.
The choir has had a hugely successful year and is growing from strength to strength, thanks to its talented young stars.
Head chorister this year is Hannah Wardrop, a talented singer who is also a member of the National Children’s Choir of Great Britain.
With more than 32 pupils ranging in age from seven to 13, they perform at functions and activities both in and out of school, including switching on the Christmas lights in Petworth last December, the school production of Baboushka and the Easter Musical Soiree.
At the BBC Choir of the Year competition they will perform as a whole and Hannah will perform as an individual.
In July, the choir boarded a coach for their long-awaited trip to Belgium, and the town of Ypres, where they sang in the Church of the Lady of the Dunes and in the market square itself.
Choirmaster Jeremy Weaver was delighted with the hard work put in by the youngsters and their outstanding performance.
He said: “Both were excellent venues and the choir really sang their hearts out.”
When not rehearsing and performing, the children had the chance to take in the cultural sights of the city.
Mr Weaver said he was ‘passionately committed’ to improving the quality and range of music that the choir performed, having become a vibrant part of Seaford College Prep School.
