It was a case of ‘Upstairs Downstairs’ for children at Easebourne Primary School when they visited Petworth House.
Year 3 and 4 pupils are currently researching the Victorian era as their class topic this term and their visit gave them an insight into what life was like both for the servants and those who lived ‘upstairs.’
The children added to the atmosphere by arriving at school dressed as Victorians.
They spent the day exploring the kitchens, the ice house, the attic and the servants quarters and taking a tour of the house itself.
The children were shown how the servants would have cooked meals for the households, as well as how they would have cleaned their clothes.
At the end of the day the school children spent time making sketches of the house and grounds.
