Burton Park pond at Duncton set for £1m restoration work

A £1m project to restore water levels at Chingford Pond on the Burton Park estate near Duncton looks set to go ahead.

Members of West Sussex County Council’s environmental and community services select committee last week agreed to recommend a contribution to major work which would see the water level restored to its historic 18.4 metres and the reinstatement of the ornamental cascade to the east of the dam wall.

Chingford Pond, a Site of Nature Conservation Importance is leased to West Sussex County Council by the owners the Petworth Management Company, formerly the Burton Park Management Company.

It forms part of the Burton and Chingford Ponds Local Nature Reserve in the English Heritage Grade II listed Burton Park.
