AFTER 22 years at the helm of ladies’ fashion shop Pandora in Midhurst, Elizabeth Hamilton has drawn up the shutters for the last time.

She announced she had decided to retire last July and hoped to find someone to take over the business, but was unsuccessful and closed on Saturday.

Thanking her many loyal customers, she said: “I am disappointed it’s not going to carry on as a fashion shop, but I have enjoyed running the business and the customers, who came from a wide area, have been lovely.

She paid tribute to her long-serving sales assistant Belinda Murphy, who joined her in 1999: “Everyone loved her and her sunny disposition.”

Elizabeth has represented Easebourne on Chichester District Council for the past eight years. She said she would be standing again in the coming election in the hope of representing a ward closer to where she now lives in Birdham.

In addition to her council work, with B&B guests and six grandchildren, she said there would be no shortage of things to do.

A new business will reopen at the premises in mid-March, selling antiques and collectables.
