MORE than £1,000 was raised at the annual charity Christmas carols at the Walled Garden at Cowdray Ruins.

It was a record for the annual fundraiser held since 2005 when the first event was hosted on behalf of the Lions Club of Midhurst to raise money for their chosen charities.

For the last three years this has included an auction for the Chestnut Tree Hospice for terminally ill children.

The evening started with mulled wine and mince pies followed by the arrival of Father Christmas on the Lions reindeer sleigh. Conifers school choir and band provided the musical entertainment singing and playing and leading the audience in traditional carols.

Soloist Tobiah Thomas also sang her newly released single Golden Christmastime.
