Fernhurst council stalwart retires from post

AFTER 13 years as a Fernhurst parish councillor John Self has retired, leaving a vacancy on the council.

Mr Self, who had already been a parish councillor for eight years where he lived previously at Worplesdon, joined Fernhurst within two years of moving to the village and has been involved in all aspects of its work.

He was vice-chairman of the planning committee for several years but his chief interest was to raise the standard of safety on the A286 through the parish, from the county border with Surrey to Midhurst.

Now Mr Self is a member of the groups leading discussions on the former Syngenta site and on the ‘elderly’ group to stimulate ideas for the parish’s neighbourhood plan.

He will also have more time to tend his Netherland Dwarf rabbits – he is a past president of the British Rabbit Council and an international judge – and to enjoy horseracing.
