A FERNHURST resident has spoken out against ‘the scare-mongering of the ‘FFF’ (Frack Free Fernhurst) website’.

Mr John Mitchell told the Observer: “FFF should not be allowed to highjack the debate.

“There has been fracking for decades in the UK and in the USA.

“Far from being ‘experimental’, the technology and its risks are very well known and understood.

“We, in Fernhurst, should be concentrating on insisting on a fully-precautionary approach by the drilling company, including a proven financial capacity to deal with the unexpected, and on proper monitoring by a qualified third party.

“But, any current thinking about these important objectives may be obscured by the hyperbole and tenor of some of the campaigning and by the misinformational content of the website.

“The clear benefits to the economy and the atmosphere that accrue from successful fracking for gas need to be publicised to the residents of Fernhurst, but that is clearly for a body other than FFF.”
