FIREFIGHTERS were called to Lurgashall last night (Thursday, August 15) after undergrowth was reported to be on fire.
The alarm was raised shortly before 10.15pm and fire crews from Petworth, Midhurst and Haslemere rushed to the scene on land off Lurgashall Road.
Around one hectare of cut wood and undergrowth was destroyed by fire.
Beaters and backpack sprayers were used to tackle the blaze and a water carrier brought in to supplement the water supply.
The fire crews worked for nearly three hours to deal with the blaze which it is believed started accidentally.
