FAMILY and friends joined former Midhurst resident Edith Arnold for her 105th birthday celebrations on Sunday.
Now a resident of the Shaw care home Hillside Lodge, Edith and her guests enjoyed afternoon tea and cakes to celebrate her big day.
Edith has seen much change during her life which started in Portsmouth, where she spent her childhood.
She moved to Midhurst when she married and brought up her six children in the town.
She said her best memories of this time were the beach holidays which the family always enjoyed: “Having the coast on the doorstep was wonderful. We loved our family beach holidays.”
Hillside Lodge care home in Pulborough has been home for Edith for just over a year.
Team leader Mary Wilson said despite her age Edith was still able to remain independent and make informed choices about her everyday life, although she is now living with dementia. Edith lives at the Shaw care home with 60 other residents needing full time care.
“She still enjoys watching soaps on the TV and still loves pampering, enjoying having her hair done each week and nails painted regularly. We love Edith,” added Mary, “she’s never apologetic about speaking her mind and can converse in a very colourful way.
“There is never a dull moment when Edith is around.”
