A FOUR year battle for coach parking has ended in victory for Midhurst town councillor Steve Morley.

He has told fellow town councillors he has finally reached an agreement to provide two coach parking spaces at the bus interchange at the bottom of North Street.

“Hopefully this means tourists will bring a much needed boost to the economy of the town and add to the viability and vitality of our cafes, bars, restaurants and shops,” he said.

Coach parking was lost in 2012 when development on the new Grange Centre began and the car park was redesigned: “Traders noticed the difference immediately and so began the search for replacement parking,” said Mr Morley, who is also one of Midhurst’s town representatives on Chichester District Council

He has spent four years trying to get everyone to the negotiating table.

“I am very grateful to Jane Hodgkiss, Paul Over and the economic development team at Chichester District Council and to Colin Stratford at Stagecoach.

“I’d also like to thank former town council chairman John Etherington for his constant support in pursuing this.”
