Close to the south-facing flint stone cottage visitors will find an attractive Purbeck stone terrace surrounded by magnificent planting schemes, with steps down to a small orchard, under-planted with chalk-loving meadow flowers.

Trim lawns, yew hedges, ilex balls and drifts of wind grass provide structure and year-round interest.

Ann-Marie, who also designed a special ‘woodland walk’ for Chestnut Tree House, will teach guests about different gardening techniques.

Linda Petrons, head of fundraising and communications at Greenfingers, said: “We fundraise to create ouside spaces in children’s hospices.

“Quite a lot of children that use hospices do not get to enjoy outside spaces because they need to be near medical care.

“Our work is about bringing the inside of the hospice outside.

“The gardens can be anything from a therapeutic garden to a grow your own garden to a bereavement garden.

“They do make a real difference, not just to the children but the whole family.”
