A FAMILY reunion of enormous proportions takes place in Wisborough Green this weekend (June 22-23).
Around 150 descendants are expected to arrive at Hawkhurst Court from as far away as New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Hawaii, France and Germany.
They are all descended from John Osmaston, who moved to Hawkhurst Lodge, as it was then called, in the 1880s, with his 15 children.
Organiser Jill Button, who is the great-great-grand daughter of John Osmaston and lives in a house at Hawkhurst Court, said: “There is something very special about being part of an occasion such as this.
“Everyone with the name Osmaston is related in some way and many of those present at the reunion will have never met before.”
John Osmaston changed his name by deed poll from John Wright. He was the son of wealthy industrialist and philanthropist Francis Wright, who built the vast Osmaston Manor estate in Derbyshire, which at the time was dwarfed only by nearby Chatsworth House.
