The Spread Eagle Hotel at Midhurst rolled out the carpet of hospitality when the Chiddingfold, Leconfield and Cowdray Hunt held its New Year meet.
Hundreds of spectators gathered for the event, mingling with regular hunt foot followers and supporters, horses and hounds.
Hotel staff served refreshments to anyone who wanted them, from mulled wine and soft drinks to cake and hot sausage rolls.
The meet was attended by all four of the hunt’s joint masters, Paul Lyon-Maris, Robin Muir, Tim Lee and the latest appointment, Charles Homan from Trotton.
Only around 20 of the CLC’s complement of 76 hounds were out for the occasion, following a drag trail which took them through the Cowdray Estate’s Moor Farm and on to Heyshott and Ambersham Commons.
Mr Muir said after five or six outings over the Christmas period, it had been decided to give the remainder of the pack a day off.
