THERE is a special reason to raise a glass in The Rising Sun at Milland after it was named best village pub of the year in London brewer Fuller’s, Griffin Trophy awards.
Ben Burston, who runs the pub said: “It has grown and evolved so much over the past seven years down to the hard work of my excellent team.
“I’m so proud to be able to take this award back and I’d like to thank all the regular customers and everyone who has visited us over the years, for supporting our pub.
The awards recognise the achievements of the company’s top managers and licensees.
Presenting the award, Michael Turner, Fuller’s chairman, said: “Ben has been at The Rising Sun since 2007 and I have seen it go from strength to strength, showing exactly what the right person can achieve.
“The Rising Sun is a true village local in the heart of unspoilt countryside.
“It is renowned for its outstanding atmosphere, great food, well-kept ales, long and varied wine list and charming staff.
“This award caps a great year for Ben, as he has also been given Master Cellarman status.
“That scheme focuses on the pub’s skill in serving excellent cask ale and it has proven to be a stepping stone to greater things.
Ben’s prize is a £2,000 holiday, a staff party and an engraved plaque.
