FOUR fire crews were called out last night (June 30) when lightning struck an electricity pole at 10.30pm and fire spread to a nearby transformer and workshop, in Tennysons Lane on the outskirts of Haslemere.

Firefighters from Midhurst, Petworth, Haslemere and Liphook fought the blaze but were unable to prevent the large wooden workshop on Blackdown heathland from being seriously damaged.

They were able to reach a gas cylinder in the workshop and moved it away from the blaze to cool.
