Backing for Midhurst skate board project

Midhurst town councillors are giving their backing to skateboarders who want to replace outdated facilities in Carron Lane.

But at a meeting of the community and environment committee they warned they would not be able to provide large sums of money.

The discussion followed a presentation by Jason Woodman and fellow skate boarder Joe Scofield who said the current equipment was ’getting beyond unusable’.

They outlined the need for new facilities and said a realistic estimate for equipment to fit the space available was between £120,000-£130,000.

They suggested resurrecting the skate boarding competition previously run by the town council to get fund raising started.

Vice chairman of the council John Quilter said: “We should continue communication and help them, but I don’t think we can put up £100,000 to replace the facilities. He said the council could help with the competition, guidance and sourcing grants.

Jason wants to hold a skate board competition during MADhurst on August 28.
