BILLINGSHUSRT Dramatic Society needs you after announcing it is to stage the musical Oh What a Lovely War to commemorate the centenary of the start of the first world war.
The production will take place on June 5, 6 and 7 at the Fishers Farm Park Theatre, Wisborough Green and is intended to be a lavish production requiring a large cast of women and men – particularly young men.
And now members of the society are looking to recruit as many people as possible, not just actors and singers but those willing to get involved in costumes, set building, and other backstage roles.
The musical is a theatrical chronicle of the first world war, told through the songs and documents of the period.
First performed by Joan Littlewood’s Theatre Workshop at the Theatre Royal, London in 1963, it received the acclaim of audiences and critics.
It has become a classic and was also made into a film in 1969.
The production features a number of well known songs such as It’s a Long Way to Tipperary and Pack up your Troubles.
The society was lucky to get permission to put on this production as it is also being performed professionally this year.
