A DECISION on the controversial plans for an exploratory well to drill for shale oil and gas at Northup Copse between Wisborough Green and Kirdford has been delayed.

The application by Celtique Energie was due to be debated and decided by West Sussex County Council’s planning committee tomorrow (Tuesday July 22) at Horsham.

But late on Friday evening West Sussex County Council took the decision to defer its planning debate.

The decision, said a county council spokesman, followed the submission of extra information in relation to the application by the energy company.

West Sussex Highways officers had raised an objection to the proposal and, as a result, the recommendation from officers had been to refuse the application.

But Celtique supplied additional information on Friday afternoon, which said the spokesman, would need to be processed and considered before the application went before the committee.

No date has been set yet for when this might happen.
