IT was party time in Petworth when Kaleidoscope Pre-school opened its doors to past and present families and staff to celebrate 20 years of providing child care.
The children were able to enjoy party celebrations including indoor activities, face-painting, outdoor fun in the garden, exploring in the nature garden and lots of tea and cake.
As a tree-planting ceremony to mark the occasion was getting under way, a thunder storm rolled in, providing great excitement.
Despite the dramatic weather, the planting duly went ahead, with all the children being invited to take part.
The sapling will grow outside the front door of Kaleidoscope, reminding visitors of the young children it cares for. The playgroup was officially registered as a charity in 1994 although had existed in other forms even before then.
It operated from the Hampers Green Community Centre for three mornings a week, caring for an average of 15 children each morning.
In September 2010, Kaleidoscope moved into its new purpose-built premises next to the community hall.
The setting is now able to offer term-time care, Monday to Friday, for up to 35 children per session.
The pre-school has strong links with the community and has developed good relationships with the local primary schools.
