Festival fun in Midhurst Market Square

Waiting for Video...

UNEXPECTED sunshine meant Midhurst Parish Church could spread the Patronal festival of St Mary Magdalene and St Denys around the square instead of squeezing into the church.

And volunteers were soon setting up stalls, games for children and laying out teas and
cakes in readiness for the opening of the Saturday fair on July 19.

All the stalls proved popular, with donated collectables being snapped up, children buzzed around the honeypot of kids’ games and the cake stall had a queue of customers.

The Rev Dave Willis and his family were in charge of the bottle stall with a whole variety of contributed items – the most prized of which were the bottle cake made by The Creative Cookie shop and the secret prize in a bottle which was £5 given by The Notebook.

Dave said he was delighted with his first summer fair: “It was a superb team effort and it was wonderful to see the whole community having such a good time.”

The new Market Square was used again in the evening for the summer festival when Dave’s team came back to make it ready for Jazz on a Summer Evening with entertainment provided by Paul Stiles and Carla Hendrick.

The Patronal festival was rounded off by the kindness of the weather, allowing Dave to host the Sunday Patronal service out in the square.

One visitor to the festival said: “It hasn’t been a year since Dave arrived and already he and his family have contributed hugely to life in Midhurst”.
