ONE resident brought the Mediterranean to Petworth, introducing her new neighbours to the art of flamenco dance and music.
Carmen Pacheco, who has danced all her life, downsized to retirement living development Morgan Court, on Station Road, last June, leaving her dance studio in Surrey behind.
Undeterred by no longer having her studio, Carmen has taken the opportunity to demonstrate her passion with neighbours.
Once settled into her new home, she wanted to give her fellow residents an activity they could all get involved in, whether sitting down or standing up, so offered them the chance to undertake a flamenco morning in the homeowners’ lounge.
Carmen said: “It was a wonderful morning and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their experience.
“Flamenco dancing has been a part of my life since I was very young and I have taught people how to dance for more than 30 years.
“This style of dancing is part of my heritage and has enabled me to have a very successful career in performing and teaching others.
“It was a great activity and the wine and tapas added that extra taste of Spain to the day.”
The homeowners at Morgan Court loved the event so much that many requested regular classes from Carmen, who is currently exploring the possibility of teaching flamenco dance locally.
