Ghost hunt at the Ruins
Ghostly beings will be hunted at Cowdray Ruins later this month, with hopes the White Lady might make an appearance.
Scott Simpson of Hurstpierpoint-based Spirit Parlour will be on the trail of everything spooky on Saturday, April 26, and he is inviting people to join him.
The White Lady is said to haunt the ancient stones, one story being she was the wife of a man who killed a priest and hid in Cowdray’s priesthole for 15 years. She used to smuggle food to him.
“It would be great if we found her,” said Scott.
He has visited the Ruins on several occasions and has had some strange experiences.
“One time I had loaded some brand new batteries in my camera while I was in the car park at the end of the causeway,” said.
“I got to the Ruins and only took two pictures before all the power was gone from the batteries.
“That happens a lot at allegedly haunted locations and I was kind of hoping something would happen while I was there!
“I am just fascinated by the history of the Ruins. It is an amazing place.
“All the big names in English history stayed there.It is a time capsule which stopped in 1793 with the fire.”
On April 26, ghost hunters will join Scott at 7pm for some instruction in techniques, and then the search will begin and continue until midnight.
