A WELL-known Petworth couple are celebrating a very special year.
The sun shone for Janet and Chris Duncton as they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
County, district and Petworth town councillor Janet has represented the Petworth ward for some 45 years, while Chris was a West Sussex County councillor for six years.
Janet has just finished her first year as county councillor, having taken over the division from Chris in 2013.
The pair are ‘passionate country and farming people’.
Janet said: “Our guests for the occasion, held at the Stag Inn, Balls Cross, included all three of our bridesmaids – Gill Caddick, Sarah Kenny (Chris’ youngest sister) and Sheila Harrison. Chris’ brother Simon was the best man.”
Janet, née Hazelman, was born and raised in Petworth and Upperton.
Her father was a master baker and grocer and her mother a dog and horse breeder, born in Sutton.
Farmer’s son Chris was also raised in the area.
The pair married in Tillington Church on June 13, 1964 and have two children – Tessa and Tim – and ten-year-old grandson Oscar.
Janet added: “The best man took the groom out the night before for drinks at the Stonemason’s, then called the Mason’s Arms.
“He suddenly realised the dress for the next day was top hat and tails –which he didn’t have.
“He went up to London in the morning, paid a visit to Moss Bros and the day was saved.
“We had a great day with so many memories past and present to carry into the future.
“We sincerely value our friends and family and take this opportunity to say thank you.”
