The Coultershaw Boardwalk which opened on July 17, 2013, was washed away in the floods on Christmas Eve.

DESPITE the Coultershaw boardwalk suffering devastation during adverse Christmas weather, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

County councillor Janet Duncton supported an application for a grant to Coultershaw from the Member’s Big Society Fund before Christmas and the project has been offered £15,000. Though the money is not for the boardwalk, it will enhance the project.

Robin Wilson, chairman of the Coultershaw trust, said: “This is a major award and will enable us to compete the fit out and interpretation plan of the Restoration Project, including new photographs, signs, models and hands on displays.

“There will be a formal opening of the completed project by Lord Egremont on the evening of July 16.

“We are hopeful that most of the cost of rebuilding the boardwalk will be covered by insurance. The work will be done by volunteers as before. We are fundraising separately for the uninsured costs.”
