Help raise £68k in Midhurst for cancer research
Cancer Research UK shop manager Sue Parrott has been at the helm for three months and has her sights set on reaching even bigger targets in the coming months.
“Last year we raised £58,000 in our shop,” she said.
“This year we would love to take that sum to the £68,000 mark.
“We now need volunteers to come to join our lovely, friendly team.
“Anyone can help – even if you are only available for a couple of hours a week, or one or two mornings.”
Sue and her team are happy to accommodate anyone, with hours to suit.
Volunteer Sara Dodds, from Easebourne, has been helping out for more than 13 years.
“I am a PAT person – I do the portable appliance testing on items that come into the shop.
“We get really nice customers, volunteers, and managers. It’s all good fun.
“Unfortunately, we are always short of volunteers.
“We do have students come in for their Duke of Edinburgh awards, who stay for a few months, which is great.
“Young people would be welcome to join us, or anyone who has a bit of time to spare.”
Yvonne O’Connor is the area manager for Cancer Research UK in West Sussex and Surrey.
She said: “This is a lovely shop with great customers and we are lucky enough to get fabulous donations from our supporters.
“The shop is large and needs constant restocking and while we have lovely volunteers, there are just not enough hours in the day.
“All the profits are ploughed into funding research to treat and prevent cancer, which is so rewarding.
“We have lots of roles, including customer service, fashion selection and fundraising.”
