THERE is a des res in the making in Midhurst’s Edinburgh Square with an unusual feature which should appeal to the security conscious.

The Cowdray Estate has announced plans to refurbish and convert Market Place back to a home.

The building was for many years home to solicitors Johnson and Clarence, but now stands empty as the attractive Georgian town house has proved too big to re-let as an office.

But ten very heavy old safes still stand in the cellar.

And as the latest edition of Cowdray News points out: “Since it will be one hell of a task to get them out we are considering leaving them as a talking point.”
