SUSSEX police and crime commissioner Katy Bourne will appear in parliament today regarding the progress of her role (January 7).

Mrs Bourne will be giving evidence to MPs at the Home Affairs Select Committee (HASC) regarding PCCs and their progress to date.

Issues on the agenda include the role of PCCs in promoting police integrity; encouraging public awareness and engagement in their work; the relationship between PCCs and their police and crime panels and the effects that PCCs have had on reducing crime since taking office.

“This is the first time I have appeared before the HASC,” said Mrs Bourne. “I welcome the opportunity to discuss my role as police and crime commissioner for Sussex and recognise the importance for PCCs to be objectively scrutinised and held to account in this way.”

The HASC is due to start at 2.45pm.

Mrs Bourne will be giving evidence together with Anthony Stansfield, PCC for Thames Valley Police.

Sussex Police chief constable Martin Richards and Thames Valley chief constable Sara Thorton, will also be giving evidence following the PCCs session.
