Lighting is new headache for Midhurst kebab shop

MIDHURST’S North Street kebab shop has found itself on the wrong side of Chichester District Council regulations for the second time.

Previously known as Ali’s Grill, the takeaway shop has recently been renamed The Midhurst Grill.

Decorators have repainted the shop front and put in fluorescent strip lighting above the shop window.

But clerk to Midhurst Town Council Joan Hursthouse told members of the planning committee on Tuesday evening, a member of the public had complained about the lighting.

Mrs Hursthouse said she had reported the matter to Chichester District Council as she believed it contravened planning regulations.

The kebab shop was fined earlier this year after raw sewage and mould were
found close to the food preparation area on the premises last year by the district council’s environmental health inspectors.

The shop closed voluntarily for urgent work to unblock drains, provide hot water and carry out other urgent work and was allowed to reopen two days later.
