Man shot dead in Fernhurst

The police Complaints Commision are investigating after police shot a man dead in Fernhurst this afternoon.

Police turned out in force on Friday when a man believed to be in his 60s was reported to be branishing a gun in front of other elderly residents, at a warden assisted development in Fernhurst.

Fire arms officers and police dog patrols rushed to the scene at Ash Grove shortly after midday and cordoned off the area.

At one point police with loud speakers were negotiating with the man in a bid to persuade him to leave the building.

Residents to Ash Grove, Palings Way, The Leys and South Leys were unable to get in or out of their homes.

The area was still cordoned off at 3.30pm on Friday.

The man was believed to have been suffering from depression.
