THE planned dredging of Midhurst’s South Pond next month has now been postponed until the start of the autumn.
Chairman of the new South Pond Group Graham Ault said, subject to funding, this would be followed by reed-bed and other planting, and island reinforcement measures.
He said a project management team had been established with representation from the South Downs National Park Authority, Chichester District Council and the South Pond Group.
“We had to consider carefully the environmental and wildlife impact of the proposals if implemented in March along with the impact of the winter’s extreme weather and water levels.
“Given the need to ensure this project is completed to the highest standards and with minimum impact on wildlife and on the community, we have decided, with some reluctance, that the commencement date of the project should be postponed until September with a view to completion by next Spring at the latest.”
