A NEW motor racing event packed with action and entertainment is set to take place in true Goodwood style.

The 72nd Goodwood Members’ Meeting is a celebration of the new racing season – in keeping with British traditions and members’ meetings past.

But organisers say it will be unlike anything done before at the Goodwood
Motor Circuit.

“After an absence of 48 years, it is certainly time the great British motor sport tradition that is the members’ meeting made a comeback,” said Lord March.

“The family and I are looking forward to it immensely. This will be the 72nd members’ meeting. I remember going as a boy to the 71st – in 1966. That was fantastic. But this one will be very special too, with a distinct character that’s as much social gathering as motor sport.

“Apart from a truly mouth-watering line-up of cars and drivers, with many never having been seen on the circuit before, the Saturday night festivities promise to be great fun.

“Goodwood Road Racing Club members and their guests can all get together in the Great Hall, with everyone – myself and my family, competitors and spectators alike – eating, drinking and laughing together.

“With the music, attractions and games, the Saturday evening festivities promise to offer a spectacular evening of entertainment
for everyone.”

The weekend of racing action and entertainment is being run exclusively for the members of the Goodwood Road Racing Club (GRRC) and their guests, and continues on from the 71 club meetings held at Goodwood in the 1950s and 1960 for members of the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC).

Celebrating British tradition, the event will be run in a house system.

A spokesman for Goodwood motor sport, said: “Everybody is allocated to a house when they buy their tickets. Drivers are also allocated to houses and will score points based on their race results.

“The house names all relate to titles currently or previously held by the
Duke of Richmond. Each house has a house captain’ and this will be a professional racing driver.”

The house captains for the 72nd members’ meeting
are renowned racers Emanuele Pirro for Torbolton house, Jochen Mass for Darnley, Anthony Reid for Methuen and Nicolas Minassian for Aubigny.

The party will start after a day of racing on Saturday.

“Think Rio Carnival in Sussex,” said a Goodwood spokesman.

“A winding street will be marked out by coloured
lights and warming braziers. This will be the procession route for marching bands and street entertainers – everything from fire jugglers and stilt walkers to a giant mechanical dragon.”

There will be live music and warming British food available all weekend. The Saturday night festivities are set to be the biggest fireworks display Goodwood has seen.”
