PEOPLE in Cocking are being invited to register for a new affordable housing development in the parish.

Chichester District Council and Hyde Martlet will be holding a special event on Monday at Cocking Village Hall in Bell Lane aimed at people with a connection to the village.

Thirteen new affordable rented homes are being built at the former garage compound and land north of The Croft in Cocking.

They will include six two-bedroom flats, five two-bedroom houses and two three-bedroom houses.

At the event, being held between 3pm and 7pm, would-be residents of the development will have the chance to talk about it to 
district and parish council staff and Hyde Martlet representatives.

The scheme was granted planning permission in October 2012 at a meeting of the South Downs National Park Authority’s planning committee and the council said of the development: “It will be of a traditional design, reflecting the site’s location on the edge of a village within the national park.”

The homes will be prioritised for households that are able to prove a local connection to the parish of Cocking.

A local connection is defined as being a current Cocking resident (for at least 12 months), or being permanently employed within Cocking (for a minimum of 18 hours a week, for at least 12 months), or having a family member currently permanently living in Cocking (defined exclusively as parents, siblings or children for a minimum of five years), or being a previous Cocking resident who has been forced to move away due to a lack of affordable housing.

People who feel they meet any of the criteria must make sure they give the district council all the information it needs to allocate the homes.

Those interested should take along to the session any evidence to support at least one of the connections, which will make sure a bid for one of the properties is considered in line with the council’s allocation scheme and make sure the housing register application is up-to-date.
