FOLLOWING a four-week closure for refurbishment, the Bricklayers Arms has re-opened to a warm welcome from the community.

The historic Midhurst pub has been given a new lease of life thanks to licensee Graham Staveley and owners Greene King.

Graham is a well-known pub entrepreneur and has taken over with partner Trish Carr.

“The reaction from everyone has been absolutely brilliant,” he said.

“The changes to the layout and décor have had great feedback, with lots of comments on the improvements to toilet facilities.

“I couldn’t have done it without the support from Trish and Lucy and would like to thank them.”

The Bricklayers’ new look has been carefully designed with the original features of the Grade II listed pub in mind. As well as improvements to the décor and furnishings, structural changes have been made to the layout to make it easier for customers to get around, including better access to the patio area at the back.

A chargrill has been installed in the kitchen, allowing the team to introduce steaks and homemade burgers to the homemade menu, which includes daily specials and food-themed evenings.

Graham plans to start serving food from March 23, in time for Mother’s Day, and is already taking bookings.

He said: “For me, a great pub should be about three things – food, drink and community spirit.

“They are absolutely central to everything the Bricklayers is about and I am incredibly proud of what we have to offer here.”

A keen golfer, Graham has set up a Bricklayers Golf Society, will be running
coaches for days out to the races and the darts team has been welcomed back.

In the near future, the Bricklayers will also run quizzes and live music.

The pub will be managed by Lucinda Morgan.

Clive Chesser, business unit director for Greene King Pub Partners, said: “The refurbishment at the Bricklayers has made such a difference and I am in no doubt it is a pub everyone in Midhurst will be proud to call their local.”

The new phone number at the pub is 01730 812402.
