THERE are two treats for garden-lovers coming up under the National Garden Scheme (NGS).

The first is Upwaltham Barns, where the garden is once again being opened by the Kearsey family this bank holiday weekend, on May 25 and 26, from 11am-5.30pm.

Coffee, teas, light lunches and cakes will be on sale as well as plants from Shillinglee Nurseries.

The entrance fee is £4 with 75 per cent going to the National Garden Scheme and the rest to the upkeep of 12th-century St Mary’s church.

At Fernhurst, Anne and John Denning are opening the gardens at Lowder Mill, Bell Vale Lane on and May 31 and June 1 for the tenth year.

Over the years it has attracted 8,000 visitors, raised more than £50,000 for the NGS charities and has recently been rated one of the best 25 gardens in Sussex to visit.

It is open on Saturday from 11am-5.30pm and on Sunday from 10.30am-5.30pm.
