Police appeal after £12,000 Petworth smash and grab

Police are appealing for information about a smash and grab burglary at an antiques shop in Petworth.

The break-in happened at Chequers Antiques on Lombard Street at around 11.30pm on July 2.

A car was spotted leaving the scene in Petworth with two men who had covered their faces. It was later found abandoned.

Police officers investigating the crime are asking anyone who thinks they might have information and who has not contacted them to get in touch.

PC Fiona Turnbull said: “Around £12,000 worth of jewellery was stolen including some valuable rings.

“Among the items taken was a Victorian pendant formed as two hearts with opals and diamonds, an 18 carat gold ring with nine diamonds, a solitaire ring with diamonds in an 18 carat gold band, two platinum Tiffany rings with diamonds, 18 carat gold earrings and a ring with three opals and two diamonds.”

She added: “A Silver Saab, which was later found abandoned in Fittleworth, was seen to drive from the scene and two men were seen wearing balaclavas.

“Anyone who saw what happened and is yet to speak to police, or if anyone has any information about these items is asked to contact police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 1887 of 2/7/

Alternatively anyone who would like to remain anonymous should contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
