SERVICE awards were presented to ten poppy appeal volunteers when the Midhurst branch of the Royal British Legion held its annual Poppy Awards party at Capron House in Midhurst.

They were presented by the Royal British Legion south east area manager, Sandra Fruish.

It was Sandra’s first visit to the town since the recent national changes to the structure of the legion, which has meant
East and West Sussex are now incorporated in the same region as Kent and Surrey.

The evening continued with Midhurst residents joining legion members for a concert given by the
Sussex Band of the Royal British Legion (Horsham) under the direction of Clive Longhurst.

The programme included the Grand March from Aida along with songs from the Great War (1914-1918),
Cabaret and many other favourites.’

Pictured are award-winners Jill King, Mervyn Evans-Jones, Janet Colman, Mike Rawlinson, area manager Sandra Fruish, Tom Eden,
Jane Moran, Pat Broadbent, June Richards, Sue Payne and Arthur Wegg.
