PETRA Lynn, who played a key part in the setting up of day-care services for elderly people and masterminded their move to the new Grange Centre in Midhurst, is leaving her post.
Petra became manager of Rother Valley Together (RVT) day-care facilities two years ago, shortly after they were founded by the ‘Big Society’ volunteer group led by Colin Hughes.
She quickly became a popular figure with club members, staff and volunteers.
But now she has announced that with great sadness, she is leaving as her husband is taking up a headmastership in Market Bosworth.
The chairman of RVT, Margaret Guest, said: “Members of the RVT Trust are very sorry to lose the services of a person who has played such a huge part in developing and delivering key services to its members in its early and formative years, and in ensuring the club’s recent successful move to the new Grange.
“Petra has endeared herself to all the members by delivering a first-class service in a caring and cheerful way.”
She said RVT now faced the challenge of recruiting a new manager to continue to deliver and develop the successful and valued services which Petra had established.
Now based at the new Grange, it provides a lunch, friendship and activities for members.
It has also offered a transport service for the more isolated and disabled members – picking them up from Plaistow, Kirdford, Lurgashall and Petworth.
Mrs Guest said the challenge of finding a new manager came at a time when the club’s move offered the chance to expand.
Table-top pottery, sensory art sessions, basket-making and armchair exercises continued and the library now also at the new Grange was more easily accessible.
She said help and advice on a range of issues affecting health and well-being and access to supported activities for health will soon be available, too.
RVT is now recruiting and will be interviewing applicants next month for the post, which is 21 hours per week.
“This is an exciting and rewarding post dedicated to enabling the more vulnerable older people in our communities,” said Mrs Guest.
