IT was a triumph not only for veteran gardener Chris Dudman but also for young Hettie Low when Sutton and District Horticultural Society summer flower show took place on Sunday.

Chris not only managed to win almost every class he entered in Fittleworth last week but again remained victorious in most of the classes at Sutton show too. And eight-year-old Hettie stole the show with her unbeatable jam tarts taking home the cup for the best cake of the day.

Show secretary Judy Seers said: “We had a great show with a high number of entries in all the classes and judge Eric Norrell said the vegetables in our show were of the highest standard he had judged so far this year.

“After a wet start the sun came out and we had lots of visitors enjoying tea and the home made cakes with a very successful raffle after prize giving.”

For the full list of winners and all the pictures, see this week’s Observer (August 14).
