FOLLOWING constant attacks on the life-saving equipment at South Pond in Midhurst by ‘mindless vandals’, a safety review is to be carried out.
Midhurst Chichester district councillor Gordon McAra told fellow town councillors: “Mindless vandals have yet again ripped the lifebelt out, cables have been twisted and covers ripped off.”
He said there would be consultation with the South Pond Group and Midhurst Town Council.
Town clerk Joan Hursthouse said she had already been consulted: “I have said I cannot see much value in retaining the equipment as it is the subject of continuing reports of damage week after week.”
A Chichester District Council spokesman said: “We are reviewing safety.
“We will be consulting if we decide any changes are necessary.”
