THE 2014 winners of the Victor Davey Award were announced at the Fernhurst Youth Club annual meeting and presented with prizes in memory of a man who did so much to help the clubs over many years.
Kit Smith and Sheriffo Suso were chosen by the club leaders because of their cheerfulness, helpfulness and politeness.
Both are regular attendees with their respective age groups.
Kit, who is considered a very good role model for the younger children, is particularly good at talking to those who seem to be on their own and encouraging them to join in, and especially enjoys his snooker and cricket.
The pair will have their names on the awards board and receive a money prize.
At the annual meeting, chairman Jenifer Mitchell reported how well both clubs were running.
With so many young people in the village, it was appropriate there should be a safe place where they can meet their friends and take part in activities they probably don’t do at home.
She thanked the leaders and the range of volunteers very much for all they do every week and it was with sadness that the junior leader Laura Keet was having to give up, but it was hoped that Kerry Moreton, the joint leader, would be able to find a friend to help.
Treasurer John Sanderson reported that finances were stable despite increased expenditure and decreased income.
The junior club meets on Tuesdays and the senior club on Wednesdays. For details, ring secretary Elsie Waitt on 01428 652270.
