Langham Brewery at Lodsworth has been chosen to help Lions Clubs International members to celebrate their one hundredth birthday.

They have brewed an special ale to help the Lions celebrate their centenniel.

Lesley Foulkes, who owns and runs the brewery with her partner James Berrow, told the Observer: “We’re really chuffed to have been chosen by the Lions Clubs International.

“The beer is called Lions Golden Pride and is a robustly hoppy golden ale. It’s a tremendous honour for the brewery and a thoroughly worthwhile cause. Hopefully the profits made from the beer will add to the already fabulous fund raising efforts of our local Lions clubs.”

Lions Clubs International was founded in 1917 in Chicago by a businessman called Melvin Jones who wanted to give something back to the community.

There are now nearly one and a half million Lions around the world in more than 200 countries.

The first UK Club was formed in London in 1950 and there are now 900 with 17,000 members.

The patron of UK Lions is HRH Sophie, the Countess of Wessex.

The Lions motto is ‘we serve’ and they do so by helping individuals and groups in their communities as well as contributing to major international Lions initiatives.
