The Midhurst Art Society’s popular annual exhibition opens today (Thursday, August 4) in the Rother College Memorial Hall, with some 260 pictures on show including the work of several new artists who have joined during the year.

Some 1200 people are expected to visit the exhibition in the next week: ”It is very successful because we have so many visitors and Midhurst really seems to enjoy it,” said Diane Underwood, spokeswoman for the society.

Among the pictures on show are some eye catching larger works including Cocking artist Barbara Jensen’s ‘Walkers’, U3A members on a trek and a powerful piece from Graffham artist Mike Purdie entitled ‘The Power and the Glory’ depicting power lines across the countryside in the evening light.

The exhibition is open daily until Thursday August 11 from 10am to 6pm, but will close at 4pm on August 11.
