Midhurst is making another bid for a ‘Queen of Shops’ award after failing in its first attempt for a £100,000 cash injection through the government’s ‘Portas Pilot’ scheme.

John Quilter, chairman of the Midhurst Vision Group which is leading the bid said: “Our first application in March was unsuccessful, with the money being awarded to 12 much larger communities mostly with ‘Town Centre Partnerships’ already in place for some years and none in the South of England.

“The enthusiastic support of our ‘town team’ has led to a new application for the second round of the scheme through which another 12 towns and three districts in Greater London will receive funding of up to £100,000 each.”

Members and a video team have been filming in North Street, West Street and Market Square and a new video was produced as part of Midhurst’s application.
