SOCIAL media users in Midhurst have taken to the internet in an attempt to brighten up one of their roads.

A Facebook page is gaining momentum after dozens suggested possible creative uses for the hoardings on Petersfield Road.

Many have put forward the idea that the blank canvas could form the basis of a community project, getting voluntary groups, organisations and schools involved.

One user wrote: “All the community groups could have a panel to decorate and show the public all the wonderful things that go on.”

Most are in favour of joining forces and creating a series of colourful designs to represent Midhurst.

The South Pond Group added: “This seems like a really great opportunity to focus on Midhurst and what it’s all about.”

Suggestions have included painting a mural that depicts a portal into another world, or floral designs.

One Twitter user wrote: “I would much prefer it to be painted, it looks very ugly, maybe this could get the whole community involved, even the school.”

At present, developers have informed community groups the space has already been earmarked for marketing.
