A SPUR of the moment fundraising event was organised at Midhurst Rother College in the wake of the devastating earthquake in Nepal.

Students and staff, who visited Nepal in 2013, were shocked into action by the appalling scenes televised from the area.

And the school held an impromptu ‘own clothes day’ which generated an amazing £1,170 in funds to donate to the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Students and staff visited the area two years ago to help refurbish school classrooms in two tiny hill communities, Chunikhel and Pharping.

Jayne Beesley, one of the school tour leaders, said: “We are all devastated.

“Our trip was made particularly wonderful because the people we encountered were incredibly welcoming and hospitable.

“They were absolutely thrilled with the difference we made to their school.

“Students and staff alike have amazing memories of the whole experience and we are heartbroken that this has happened to such a wonderful country.”
