RUNNING a half marathon is not something someone would take lightly, but Midhurst runner Jamie is planning to take on the 13.1 mile half marathon course wearing a sweltering head-to-toe fancy dress costume.

Jamie O’Leary, 31, will be running this year’s Vitality Reading half marathon in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume at the suggestion of his children.

Jamie is running to raise funds for Leukaemia CARE as he knows all too well the impact a blood cancer diagnosis can have on people – both at the time of diagnosis and post treatment, after his uncle was diagnosed with leukaemia in his mid-twenties.

His uncle is still suffering with the disease and Jamie feels this is made easier with continued support from charities such as Leukaemia CARE.

He has already notched up one run for Leukaemia CARE when he undertook the gruelling London marathon in 2011.

This time he said he was looking for a fresh challenge to encourage people to sponsor him again.

“I feel that because I am physically able to take part in these events,” Jamie told the Observer, “then I should do what I can to help others like my uncle, who are less fortunate.

“The choice of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle outfit is down to my children.

“I’m only too pleased this decision was made before the Frozen film was released, otherwise I could have found myself dressed as Elsa!”
