Midhurst shops targeted by thieves

A NUMBER of traders in Midhurst took to social media sites, including Facebook, earlier this week to warn their fellow businesses about shoplifters.

Sussex Police were called at around 1.30pm on Tuesday (January 28) to reports of shoplifting from Boots and Stepping Out in North Street.

A police spokesman said: “A green Ford Focus was stopped on the A272 shortly before 2pm that day heading from Midhurst towards Petersfield.

“Items of stolen clothing were recovered and two people were detained.

“A 33-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, both from Lancing, were arrested on suspicion of theft. They were questioned before being released on bail until February 13 while officers carry out further inquiries.”
