  • Bridge lies between Kirdford and Wisborough Green

A PETITION to save an ancient bridge is gathering momentum.

More than 1,000 people have registered their signature online in a bid to save Boxal Bridge, between Kirdford and Wisborough Green, from demolition.

This stone bridge is named as a community asset. However, this gives it no statutory protection from demolition

A spokesman for the Keep Kirdford and Wisborough Green group said: “This stone bridge is named as a community asset. However, this gives it no statutory protection from demolition, which is what West Sussex County Council would like to do, and replace it with a two-lane highway.

“The petition was set up demanding Boxal Bridge is not demolished as residents wish to retain the rural character of the road.”

The closing date to sign the petition is May 6. Go to Petition
