Friends of Midhurst Community Hospital have celebrated the reopening of the Bailey inpatient ward with an official opening ceremony for the new quiet room at the hospital.

A place where terminally ill people can talk to palliative care nurses and relatives can stay, it has been named the Dennis Brennan room in memory of Dr Dennis Brennan who died suddenly in early August from cancer.

He was informally ‘vice president’ of the Friends and an active supporter at the forefront of the campaign to reopen the Bailey ward when it was closed in April because of a staffing shortage.

Friends chairman George Marchand said: “There is a very purposeful, positive attitude among staff since the hospital reopened today (Monday, September 19).”
