The team at the Noah’s Ark in Lurgashall is celebrating after being listed among the best pubs in Britain in a prestigious guide.
The pub has been recommended in the newly released Good Pub Guide for 2017, Britain’s most popular pub guide, now in its 35th year.
The much-read guide book to pubs gave its stamp of approval to the Noah’s Ark, leased from Greene King, after a full inspection and following a number of customer recommendations.
And listing it in next year’s guide inspectors have highlighted what they called ‘a busy old pub in a lovely spot overlooking the village green and cricket pitch’.
Their detailed review acclaimed the village pub for being ‘popular with locals’ and having a ‘bustling atmosphere’, as well as boasting ‘neatly kept rooms and pleasing food using local produce’.
Amy Whitmore, licensee of the Noah’s Ark, said: “It is fantastic for us to be recognised in the Good Pub Guide.
“We love where we are situated and are proud of our business being a central part of the community.
“This listing is a tribute to everyone who works in the pub. We have a huge amount of positive feedback from our customers and this accolade reflects the affection local people have for the pub.”
She added: “Our menu remains very focussed on seasonal ingredients and we still use local, small suppliers. We smoke a lot of our own food -trout, salmon, brisket - and we grow produce.
“Our food offering has changed slightly, really simple food, less ingredients but sourced carefully and presented well. The menu still changes every six weeks.
“We are lucky enough to still have the same chef who has now been with us for six years.”
Clive Chesser, managing director of Greene King Pub Partners, said: “This is a superbly-run business with licensees who have established the Noah’s Ark as the best pub in its locality so this listing is hugely well-deserved.”
Amy Whitmore and Henry Coghlan took over the pub in 2006. Over the years their reputation has grown and the Noah’s Ark has now become a food destination but the village locals have also remained at the top of the pub’s priorities.
